Automated Knife Sharpener
Automated knife sharpener using 3D printed components.
Automated knife sharpening. Set it, walk away, come back to a sharp edge.
///Case Study
Challenge
01Knife sharpening with a Horl-style sharpener is repetitive and time-consuming. Wanted to automate the back-and-forth motion entirely.
Sec.01■
Approach
02Crank slider mechanism powered by a 12V 100RPM motor. 3D printed hexagon gear with D-shaped cutout drives a set of arms. Speed control for consistent strokes.
Sec.02■
Outcome
03Work in progress. Currently solving linear tracking—the sharpener needs to stay perfectly straight while the motor cranks it. Designing a rail system to constrain the motion.
